The Rafael Cañizares winery is located in a unique natural environment, in the center of three mountain ranges in Alicante, Sierra de Salinas, Sierra la Umbría and Sierra de la Sima, one of the most valued areas of the Alicante PDO.
Limestone soils that have given life to the best wines since Roman times
Nearby is the site of El Puntal, from around the V and IV century BC, which is considered the most important Iberian settlement of the Alto Vinalopó. It is a privileged enclave with a great historical and natural value, which also has the Laguna de Salinas, where the rivers of the surrounding mountain ranges flow into the lagoon, which has no outlet to the rivers or the sea. It has played a key role in the history of the municipality of Salinas, making the area attractive for human settlement since prehistoric times. The area has limestone soils, with an altitude of 600 – 750 meters, covered with stones, with very little capacity to retain water, very conducive to the production of high quality wines, in fact wines were already produced in Roman times.
A must-visit winery for wine enthusiasts
In 2024, Rafa Cañizares inaugurates his boutique winery in Salinas, Alicante, a personal project that combines tradition and avant-garde. With a limited production of high quality wines such as Triga, Rafa Cañizares and Sofía Cañizares, this winery reflects the value of terroir and native varieties.
Located in an old farmhouse and surrounded by vineyards, the winery offers a unique wine and food experience, combining history, advanced technology and the legacy of five generations of winemakers.
